The Yellow Perch is the smaller cousin of the Walleye and is also one of the Walleye's favorite food sources. Yellow Perch are quite plentiful in the 8 to 11 inch range. They are the best eating fish in Lake Erie and possibly the most sought species in the lake.
Fishing for Yellow Perch on Lake Erie is nearly always done by anchoring the boat over a well defined school of fish seen on the Depth finder. The equipment used to catch the Yellow Perch is generally a reel and Rod of 5 1/2 foot length, medium action with 8 to 10 lb test line and a 2 hook rig with a 1/2 to 3/4 ounce sinker. Best times to catch Yellow Perch are April thru May and August thru October.
